General Consulting

The Internet, and the technical documentation that comes with having to administer it can be a bewildering maze. The Media, some software companies and other IT Services have done a terrible job of informing and educating the public. There's so much hype, flim-flam, distorted promises, inflated claims, hysterical over-reaction, murky waters, broken mirrors and general foolery that the average person, be they small businessman or just plain Joe Public, has little idea of what's true and what isn't.

The Web, as it was originally envisioned by it's founders, was to be a place where the average person, non-profit organization, educational institution or small business would have an equal footing with larger entities. As it has turned out, some companies have convinced just about everyone that they need teams of high-priced consultants, and expensive hardware and software to have a decent presence on the Web. In other words, they've been saying to us all, "No-one comes to the Web except by ME."

It may shock some, but a meaningful, well-run, well-documented, secure and well-maintained Web presence does not require a suitcase full of cash, a meeting room full of 100 consultants, or this or that special, terribly unique piece of software. Ask us; we've been around the Net since 1994, and we can show you how it's done simply and economically. Not everyone needs a $50,000-$100,000 "e-commerce" (there's that phrase again!) site to benefit from a Web presence. Many businesses actually don't need an e-commerce site at all, just a good Web site that details who they are and what they offer. Note that our site is very simple, owing to a philosophy that notes that while the Web is very "2.0" now, and that we fully support that, and all good innovation, not everyone has the bandwidth nor the processing power to handle cutting-edge code. When merely visiting a site takes up 95% of your processing power, something's off; and so we keep it simple on purpose.

As Thoreau said, "Simplify, simplify."

We are also independent consultants. That's very important! As such, we are not associated with any ISP (Internet Service Provider), Web Host, On-Line Service, Software Company or any of their marketing plans. As such, we can give you a completely unbiased opinion. We can help take the hot air out of everything you've heard, and give you the straight, undistorted facts. We offer expertise in the following areas:

  • Technical Documentation

  • ISP Issues

  • Web Hosting

  • Web Site Design and Administration

  • Internet Connectivity Issues (cable, DSL, Satellite, etc)

  • Client-Side Software Selection and Tutoring

  • Hardware Issues

  • Cloud vs. on-site Issues

  • The Net from Home-DSL/Cable/Fiber Optic/Satellite/WiFi issues and options
